A little background

DSAP AND DIET
DSAP - Disseminated Superficial Actinic Porokeratosis. DSAP is a skin condition causing multiple, dry, ring-like, scaly lesions up to 10 mm each, mainly on the forearms and legs. It is due to the sun causing thickening of the skin.

And I have it in spades. It started in my early twenties on my arms and legs. I’m now 59 and have it from my hips to my toes, from my fingers to my chest and upper back. It’s also appearing on my face.
In the 80s, I went to a dermatologist who thought my case was so advanced that he wanted his colleagues to see it. I went to their monthly meeting and was looked at by 40 dermatologists. They all agreed that it was DSAP and they all said there was basically nothing to be done to cure it except that I could try Efudex. I did that once and it was so painful and ugly there was no way I could do every area effected, plus the results were not that great.
I’ve also seen lots of alternative health practitioners. Nothing they suggested worked.
I have lived in the tropics for the past 11 years and it has definitely gotten worse. It’s a disease that takes time to appear. So sun damage today appears a few years down the road. I’ve been careful here, but it’s still hard to be completely sun free.
I’m starting this blog to document an experiment I’m doing with my diet. I have been told before that eating sugar contributes to skin problems. I’ve never been able to give it up for a long enough period of time to see any results.
That’s where the Fat Summit comes to play. I just finished listening to most of the podcasts. I think Fat is the key to my skin health. Call me crazy, I’m giving it a try.
Other health issues I’m hoping will clear up:
Rough dry skin
Splitting fingernails
Calloused feet
Super plaque forming on my teeth - my dental regimen takes 15 minutes.
Wrinkles - maybe too wishful
